At Madison River Communications, what we bring together sets us apart. Today, Madison River offers telecommunications services in attractive markets in the Southeast and Midwest.
Madison River brings together an experienced management team, strong equity sponsorship, and a proven ability to acquire and integrate rural telephone companies. Through four successful acquisitions, the company has proven that it can acquire and integrate RLECs while increasing revenues and increasing Adjusted Operating Income margins.
J. Stephen Vanderwoude, former President and Chief Operating Officer of Centel Corporation and former President of the Local Telecom Division of Sprint Corporation, founded Madison River Communications in 1996. The company's primary objective was, and remains, to acquire local telephone companies in rural markets and then integrate, manage, and improve their operations.
Affiliates of Madison Dearborn Partners, Goldman Sachs & Co., and Providence Equity Partners as well as members of management have provided strong equity sponsorship since the company was started. Former shareholders of Coastal Communications also became equity investors in 2002.
Madison River Communications has also deployed a facilities based edge-out strategy. The Edge-Out Services, also known as Madison River Communications, LLC., have developed in cities and towns close to its RLEC operations.
