MEBANE, NC -- Madison River Communications, an established and rapidly growing Integrated Communications Provider, received approval to provide competitive telecommunications services including high-speed data, local voice, and long distance services from the Public Utility Commission of Texas effective June 27, 2000.

Madison River Communications, either directly or through its affiliates, is certified in four states as an Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier, including Illinois, North Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. Additionally, Madison River is certified in ten states as a Long Distance Provider, including Illinois, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Kentucky, Louisiana, Tennessee and Texas; and in five states as a Competitive Local Exchange Carrier, including Illinois, North Carolina, Florida, Mississippi and Texas. Further Competitive Local Exchange Carrier applications have been filed and are pending in six other states.

This approval follows closely on the announcement of the completion and opening of the Network Support Center in Plano, Texas. The NSC supports Madison Rivers' 195,000 access lines and over 2200 route miles of fiber optic cable. On June 10, 2000, the Plano Network Support Center assumed network surveillance and customer service responsibilities for all Madison River Communications.

The NSC allows for 24 hour-a-day, 7 day-a-week, monitoring of Madison River's advanced fiber optic platform, ATM backbone transport platform, Internet and enterprise data network elements, and product and service delivery components all the way to the customer site.

Madison River provides integrated communications solutions to the areas it serves as both an incumbent provider and an integrated communications provider of voice and data communications, including local, high speed Internet access, enhanced data, DSL, long distance, 800 services, and custom calling features.
